To investigate clinical value of 14C-urea breath test (14C-UBT) for the diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori(Hp)

70 patients were both pertormed gastroscopy (taking gastric mucosae biopsy for rapid urease test and histology) and14C-UBT (some patients by Hp-IgG or DNAHp test also) within two days. The positive cases of both rapid urease test and histology was defined as a gold standard" of Hp-positive

whereas the negative cases of both rapid urease test and histology as "gold standard" of Hp-negative. The sensitivity of 14C-UBT was 93.2%

the specificity 73.1%

and the diagnostic accuracy 85.7%. The difference (comparing with " gold standard") was not marked (x2 = 0.9 < x20.05(1) = 3.84

P> 0.05). But the diagnostic accuracy of 14C-UBT (85.7%) and Hp-IgG (50%) had a marked difference (x2= 13.80>x2 0.01(1)=6.64

P<0.01). Therefore

the 14C-UBT was easy to operate

reliable and suitable for clinical application.
