The technique of kryptonation combined with autoradiography
being used in failure analysis of the works
is described. It offers an extremely sensitive method of displaying microdamages on surface and in subsurface. The advantages of this technique are high sensitivity
which enables the surface microcracks to be revealed with the opening width as fine as 0.05
µ
m
and the possibility of nondestructively detecting subsurface microdamages. It is likely much better than other methods.
