A new method was developed determining the solid solubility of a metal oxide series prepared by precipitation using the positron lifetime parameters. The positron lifetime spectra were measured of a seris of CuO/ZnO catalysts prepared by precipitation in which the CuO at% contents were different before and after reduced. The relations were obtained between the solid solubility of the catalysts and the positron lifetime parameters
from which a result of solid solubility of 12 CuO at% after reduced had been found. The viewpoint that the Cu
+
ion acted as the active centre in the CuO/ZnO catalyst was supported.
