Preliminary design of SiC composite cladding fuel rod with lead-bismuth eutectic filled pellet-cladding gap
“According to the latest research report, a design using liquid lead bismuth alloy to fill the gap between the core block and cladding is proposed to solve the problems of poor thermal conductivity and mechanical interaction between the core block and cladding in SiC materials. The peak temperature of the optimized UO2-LBE-SiC fuel rod decreased by about 200 K, avoiding the mechanical interaction between the core block and cladding, and meeting safety requirements.”
