The status of ITER radioactive waste management and enlightenment to CFETR radioactive waste management
“The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) will enter the experimental phase of thermonuclear fusion operation, generating various tritium containing radioactive waste. ITER has designed a complete set of radioactive waste management and storage systems, classifying waste into extremely low-level radioactive waste, low-level solid and liquid waste, intermediate level and long-lived nuclide containing waste, and pure tritium waste. Different management plans have been designed based on the characteristics of each type of waste and sent to corresponding disposal plants in France for disposal. Understanding the current status of ITER radioactive waste management is of great reference significance for promoting the safe management of radioactive waste in China's fusion engineering experimental reactor CFETR, mastering tritium containing waste treatment technology, and gaining public understanding and support. By sorting out and analyzing the ITER radioactive waste management system, research suggestions for CFETR radioactive waste management were proposed.”
