    • A modified method to eliminate 210Bi interference in the analysis of 90Sr by extractive chromatography

    • “During the analysis of 90Sr in environmental samples, 210Bi is an important interfering nuclide. By collecting the elution solution in sections, measuring and drawing the elution curve, it was found that bismuth and yttrium were completely adsorbed on the chromatographic column and could not be completely separated, resulting in a higher 90Sr measurement result. For some environmental samples, the content of 210Pb-210Bi is much higher than that of 90Sr-90Y, and further bismuth removal measures must be taken. The residual 210Bi after column separation can be removed by Bi2S3 precipitation method; When Bi2S3 precipitation is not carried out to remove bismuth or when bismuth removal is incomplete, 210Bi still remains. Therefore, it is recommended to use the decay law to eliminate 210Bi interference by repeatedly measuring the sample source and applying formula correction. The experimental results show that when the activity ratio of 210Bi to 90Sr is ≤ 5, the relative deviation between the corrected 90Sr result and the reference value is within 23%. The 90Sr results calculated by the correction method for environmental samples are basically consistent with the measurement results after bismuth removal by Bi2S3 precipitation.”
