Segmented gamma scanning (SGS) measure is an important technique for qualitative and quantitative analysis of nuclear scrap and radioactive waste (NSRW).
Purpose
2
This study aims to improve the accuracy of the point source activity of NSRW measured by SGS for each segment with compensation of the wedge-disturbing effect.
Methods
2
The calibration coefficients of each segment were determined by the method of inter-segment compensation. Monte-Carlo simulation and experimental measurements were employed to accurately calibrate the detected region overlap of the segments using HPGe detector.
Results
2
The experimental results show the wedge-disturbing effect can be effectively removed with this proposed method. The relative error is within 10% of the experimental value and the accuracy in the estimate of point source activity increases by 5%.
Conclusion
2
The correction analysis using calibration coefficient is feasible and effective for SGS technique.
