Ti and N ions are simultaneously introduced into precise mini-bearing balls (1.57-- 1.60mm) by the dynamic ion--beam mixing technique. Uniformity of the implanted elements and their depth profiles in the matrix are examined by AES and EDAX analysis. The results indicate that the mini--balls treated by means of ion beams have heterogeneities of less than 13% for the same ball surface and of less than 15% for different balls
and a mixed zone of more than 140nm is found. It is believed that the bearing balls treated as such can satisfy the requirements to the practical application under suitable processing conditions.
