is a kind of tetracyclic Ba - Ti - Nb silicate and has low content of Fe (Fe2O3<3%). The first report on its 57Fe Mossbauer spectrum is given in the paper . Two sets of quadrupole doublets are obtained from the spectrum. The A doublets is attributed to Fe3+ and the B doublet reflects Fe2+ in the Ti -O octahedra. Fe3+/Fe2+ = l. 32. The spectrum indicates that; (l)both Fe3+ and Fe2+ are present in baotite; (2)Fe3+ and Fe2+ exist as isomorphism in the octahedra; (3)the titanium octahedron is somewhat distorted
which is similar to the case of rutile; and (4)there may be a complicated structure in baotite crystal.
