The acute toxicity test showed that the oral LD50values were >21500mg/kg for male and female mice
indicating that irradiated pollens belong to low toxicity grade or practically non-toxic . Mutagenicities were studied in three short-term tests. Ames test showed that ir-radia-ted pollens did not induce mutation towards strains TA98
TA97
TA100and TA102. Mi-cronucleus test in the bone marrow cells indicated that the percentage of polychromatic ery-throcytes with micronuclei in exposed groups had no significant difference in comparison with the controlled ones . Chromosomal test for reproduction cells showed that the increase of chromosomal aberration rate was not observed . All the above results suggest that irradiated pollens are safe for human consumption.
