Empirical formulas play important role in some theoretical calculations in applied nuclear physics. There are lots of empirical formulas for total cross section of nuclear reaction. In this paper

we use Kox empirical formula as a basis to estimate doses in tumor therapy with heavy ions. We have revised some parameters of Kox empirical formula in order to get more precise values in the application. At the same time

the physical meaning of these revised parameters are discussed.
