Study of single aerosol particles using synchrotron radiation micro-beam X-ray fluorescence spectrometry
Synchrotron radiation micro-beam X-ray fluorescence was applied to analyze the atmospheric aerosol particles in Shanghai city. The experiment was carried out at the X-ray fluorescence station of 4W1B beam line of Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility (BSRF). The excitation energy was in a range of 3.5-30keV
and the beam size was 20 μm× 10 μm. We measured both pollution source samples and environmental monitor samples collected at Wusong
Shanghai city. The results show that the particles from different pollutant sources were characterized by their own X-ray spectra. Therefore the origin of environmental monitor aerosol particles can be deduced by a comparison between spectra of environmental monitor particles and those of pollution source particles.
