Influence of water content in sediments on in-situ EDXRF measurement and its correction
This paper describes the influence of water content in natural sediments on in-situ EDXRF measurement. Based on the coherent and incoherent scattered X-ray intensities of the primary X-ray emitted from the excited source on sediments
a new correction method has been proposed
which can effectively overcome the influence of water content on the characteristic X-rays of target elements. Tests on powder soil samples from a copper mineral prospecting area show that the intensity changes of the characteristic X-rays from iron (10.9%)
copper (300mg/kg) and zinc (124mg/kg) are less than 5% when the changes of water content in the sample are about 20%.
