The low energy γ-ray spectrum is described in detail on the basis of analyzing the field full γ spectrum. The relationship is discussed between low energy γ spectrum and effective atomic number of rocks. Since there are differences in the position and shape of the low energy spectrum for different rocks
the lithology of rocks can be differentiated by means of measuring the low energy gamma ray spectrum.
