Structures of the mechanically alloyed Fe0.6Ni0.4 after milling for 5

40 h were investigated by X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results show that after milling for 5 h the patterns with bcc-like structure of a-Fe and with fee-like structure of Ni were observed. After milling for 10-20h the patterns with bcc-like structure of a-Fe disappeared
and only the patterns with fee-like structure were observed. After milling for 40 h the weak patterns with bcc-like structure appeared again. So the mechanically alloyed Fe0.6Ni0.4 after milling for 40 h is not a homogeneous supersaturated solid solution.
