A clinical study of relationship between dynamic renography and bone mineral density in patients with DM
The 99mTc-DTPA dynamic renography was performed in 35 normal controls and 47 patients with DM. Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) was used to estimate bone mineral density in L2-L4 for all of the cases. The results showed that BMD age-matched values of subgroups with mild or severe decreasing renal function were significantly lower than that of the controls (P<0.05 and P<0.01
respectively). And
BMD decreased more significantly for the subgroup with severe decreased renal function. Therefore
the prophalaxis of osteoporosis for DM patients with renal insufficiency is very important
and the protection of renal function of DM patients is effective for the prevention of diabetic osteoporosis.
