A study on the techniques of prolonging the preservation period of alive tussah cocoons by means of 60Co γ ray irradiation to control the pupae development
The tussah cocoons have been treated by γ irradiation to control the pupae development and prolong their preservation period. As compared with the conventional hot steam killing method
it could save energy
cost and improve the quality of silk or cocoons.
The experiment showed that the tussah pupae in dormant or pre-blackening period were irradiated by the dosage of 2×10

R or more
their respiration strength weakened
glycogen consumption decreased and all the metabolisms were inhibited.
If the dormant pupae were irradiated by 8—12×10

they can be preserved two months longer in ordinary temperature than the controlled. The unraveling technology and silk quality analysis of the tussah cocoons irradiated by 2—25×10
