Oxygen and sulphur ion-beams were accelerated at energies up to 200 GeV/nucleon in the CERN/SPS

which opened a new energy region for investigation on ultrarelativistic nucleusnucleus interactions. A new type of digital controlled apparatus is developed for efficiently measuring high multiplicity of the high-energy heavy-ion induced central reactions in nuclear emulsion chambers.
