GCr15 and Cr12MoV were subjected to different treatments
i.e. ion implantation
gas and ion nitridation
and quenching. Lower load wear tests of the specimens were performed. The wear resistance of N
+
implanted samples were found to be the best. Results showed that the more the elements forming nitrides the more significant improvement of wear resistance. AES
XPS
TEM and X-ray diffraction examinations were performed to study comprehensively the structures and compositions of the samples.
