Abstract

The effect of N

ion implantation on aqueous corrosion of pure iron was studied. X-ray diffraction and Auger spectra were examined. Results showed that the Fe-N compounds formed by ion implantation improved the metal's corrosion behaviour. Discussions on binding energies of the Fe-N compounds were given to understand the mechanism of the effect.
